Located at the former Uniting Church, 12 Edwin Street, Spalding, JIMBURA Art Cafe is set to launch in early October 2026 (pending Plan SA Development approval in June/July), to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the settlement of Spalding in 1876. JIMBURA Art Cafe will offer a meeting place for local residents and visitors, stimulating community engagement and enterprise with an arts focus. This project is the culmination of 8-years renovating and repurposing this building, supporting its historical significance for Spalding, approaching its 100th year since laying the foundation stone in October, 1927.
Community and Cultural Outcomes
- Injecting creative and economic activity into the community via tourism and stopovers by travellers
- Contribute to revitalising Spalding, in collaboration with local businesses, residents and artists
- Offering employment for locals operating the art gallery/cafe and connected events
- Providing opportunities for mid-north SA and Australian artists to showcase their creative works
- Curating an annual exhibition by mid-north SA Ngadjuri and wider First Nations artists
- Facilitating access to the gallery/arts space for children’s art exhibitions and community art events
- Developing facilities for workshops, meetings, performances and arts-related functions
- Supporting links this building has historically with the Spalding community, thus fostering its survival into the future
